Hi! I’m Audrey Maak, and I help people help animals – in their daily work and in disasters.
I support veterinarians, vet students, animal organizations, and animal shelters with practical workshops, hands-on tools, and a calm presence.
I also help traumatized animals find peace of mind, particularly dogs in shelters.

Compassion fatigue may be more widely known in the US, but it’s also a common phenomenon in Europe – especially among animal caretakers. According to a recent study conducted in Germany, veterinary professionals are five times more likely to commit suicide than members of the general public. This mirrors studies conducted in the US and other countries, too.
Through online and offline workshops, I can help organizations and individuals prevent compassion fatigue by developing resilience programs and conflict resolution skills.

Animal shelters are constantly faced with increasing challenges and ongoing change. Daily work at such shelters is often fast-paced and complex. With the help of workshops, training and coaching, however, a sense of ease and flow can be achieved.
I help animal shelters develop and implement new and pragmatic concepts for the well-being of animals and humans. I start by getting to know each shelter, with a view to optimizing their processes.
My real passion lies in working with long-term shelter dogs. Together with a team of experts in German- and English-speaking countries, I offer tried-and-tested solutions for all animal shelters, including on-site and online workshops and training for the entire staff (gladly also volunteers), as well as management coaching and strategy development.
Together, we will lead your shelter into the future.
The Trust Technique is a well-established, highly effective method that uses mindfulness to help reduce stress in animals and humans. It also helps humans to establish a connection and create a trusting relationship with their pets. After all, trust is everything.
As a Trust Technique Practitioner, I regularly donate my time to shelters and have volunteered for international animal organizations in India, Germany, Austria, and Hungary.

As a certified field traumatologist with the Green Cross Academy for Traumatology in the US, I create calm in difficult situations.
Much of the volunteer work I do in disaster zones is focused on animal rescue, which is why I’m currently taking courses in emergency animal sheltering.
I recently completed over 100 hours of service counseling in Tijuana, Mexico, working with first responders, psychologists, nurses, and social workers, as well as traumatized survivors.
